The maximum verified human lifespan is 122 years (Jeanne Calment). But most researchers are interested not in the record but in how to live longer and healthier at the same time.
What affects longevity
According to twin studies, genetics explains only about 20–30% of the differences in lifespan — the rest comes down to lifestyle and environment. Even moderate leisure-time physical activity can add up to 4.5 years. In the "blue zones" (regions of long-lived people), activity, a mostly plant-based diet, strong social ties and moderation all come together.
What is proven and what is not
Honestly about the evidence: the most reliable ways to extend life are quitting smoking, regular activity, a healthy weight and control of blood pressure and blood sugar. At the same time, as of the 2020s there is no convincing clinical evidence that any particular diet or supplement extends human life — many "anti-aging" strategies (for example, calorie restriction) have been studied mainly in animals.
Longevity and biological age
Years lived are your chronological age, whereas the state of the body is reflected by biological age. The goal of modern prevention is not simply to add years but to slow biological aging, so that health and independence are preserved longer.
